(Nov. 29, 2018) Six years after the town disbanded its Parks and Recreation Department in the aftermath of the national financial recession, Department of PublicWorks director Rob McNeil visited the dilapidated Tom Nevers playground.

As he walked around the little-used baseball field and roller-hockey rink, he thought the park had plenty of potential to be a great space for recreation.

The time has come to implement a plan to renovate the facility, he said.

The way forward to adequate parks and organized recreation, Mc-Neil said, is to ask the community what it would like to see the town do for its parks and create a master plan based on that input.

“Why not develop a plan for the island before we fix one project?” McNeil asked. “The beauty is that we recognize Tom Nevers as out in front, but we want to couch Tom Nevers in a town-wide approach.”
